AMMAN: the capital has ancient and modern areas virtually overlapping one another. Amid the bazaars downtown there’s a Roman Amphitheater, built 18 centuries ago. Overlooking the theater are remains of the city’s fortified center in the early 8th century, the Citadel Artifacts recovered from the site date the area to the Bronze Age.
